One of our favorite NYC hip hop focused blogs, GAK City.com, interviews Q and gets to the bottom of the who, the what, the when, where and how he became TAG Records’s first recording artist, Q da Kid.
GAK City promises to have more Q exclusive content on the way, stay tuned.
The Rise and Fall of the Franchise:
XXL Mag recently interviewed TAG Records’ Q da Kid.
“Q Da Kid may be a relatively new of name to some, but expect that to soon change. The Brooklyn bred rapper has been working closely with producer/entrepreneur Jermaine Dupri for the last couple years and is now ready to let his voice be heard.
A former member of the group Da Franchise (with Gravy and Red Café), Q signed to the newly launched TAG Records this past summer as their first artist. Backed by the support of JD and a strong marketing campaign, he is preparing to release his debut, It Was All A Dream, in the first quarter of 2009.”
Jake Paine of HipHopDX.com sat down recently with Kareem Savage, aka Q da Kid, to talk about his history (BROOKLYN!!!) and making history as TAG Records first recording artist.
“That relationship led to the TAG deal. However, given the major backing Q has, he may be in a greater position than most debuting artists with bringing attention back to New York. He recognizes the accountability that comes with that though. “Being that I’m from Brooklyn, a lot of the great emcees came from [here]. So there’s a lot of pressure at the end of the day. People expect a lot ’cause a lot of great music came from here,” Q says, citing Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z [click to read], Lil Kim and Shyne. “I gotta make sure my music is correct, and it represents Brooklyn and Hip Hop as a whole. That’s what I’m trying to do.” It’s bigger than New York to Q. “I’m not trying to be a regional artist. I’m trying to be an artist that can go to Africa or China and perform.“
Q da Kid and DJ Envy took the stage and performed their new track off of the TAG Records: On a Mission album in NYC at SOB’s for HOT 97 FM’s “Who’s Next” Concert.
Thanks to CopaTV and BFochs Beat Blog for their continued support of the mission The video below is new footage from the event.

Q da Kid and The Knux TAG teamed “Who’s Next” at SOB’s in NYC this week for Hot 97.
Yung Drew had this to say of impressive performance,
“Q Da Kid gets props from me, as he has been doing his thang on that TAG Records label with Jermaine Dupri… As far as The KnuX go – they’ve always been dope. Their album “Remind Me In 3 Days…” is in stores now – so be sure to pick up a copy of that! Above both artists perform on “Who’s Next” for Hot 97.”
Yung Drew was also kind enough to post the video to his blog, which you can check out here or by clicking the Q da Kid & the Knux video on the right menu.
